For the past year or so, I've wanted to know more about Tarot, what kind of deck I should buy (for a beginner), and any recommended websites.
I've gotten books from the library in the past, but some of those read like Stereo Instructions.
HELP!!!!!!!

Re: New to Tarot
Sat, January 20, 2007 - 4:58 PMI would say simple do it. Go to a store that has cards and buy the deck. The idea of a deck jumping out at you is about "feeling it".
Decide you going to get the deck, take the action and it will be there. Let it happen. The deck will come with a small book and that is enough.

let the deck choose you
Sat, January 20, 2007 - 5:47 PMof course, I did not start with the books. something piqued my interest in tarot, and then soon after I was at a gallery opening where the artwork from a deck was being shown and on impulse I just bought the deck. and it was only then that I began reading. this deck did not even come with a "little white book," but the artist did say that her meanings were derived from the rider waite meanings. later I got a rider waite, for comparison, and it has become pretty much an equal reading deck for me.
as far as the stereo instructions. you might try mary greer or joan bunning, but in the end I think you need to let the cards sink in to a coherent world view of some kind, and make them yours. your reading of five pentacles, or whatever, will be different from someone else's, but it will be the way your deck talks to you.

Re: let the deck choose you
Fri, March 9, 2007 - 12:07 PMAll my friends jumped on a Tarot buying band wagon and I said "I'd never buy cards"...six months later a deck jumped out and got a hold of me, life has never been the same.
